Somali government reopens MOVCON private terminal at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu

The Somali federal government has rescinded its decision to close the MOVCON private terminal at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu which is used by the United Nations, AMISOM and Western embassies, According to current reports emerging from Mogadishu International Airport.

The Somali Minister for Internal Security, Abdullahi Mohamed Nur has issued an order for the re-authorization of the MOVCON terminal, which has been implemented by the relevant authorities.

The move followed talks between the Somali Minister for Security and Diplomats inside the Halane Camp.

Sources close to the Civil Aviation Authority have also confirmed that the terminal has been cleared and is now operational.

The order to close the MOVCON terminal was issued by the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced that MOVCON had been closed for a number of reasons, including the use of non-UN and AMISOM passengers, in violation of the legal travel procedures.

The letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also stated that there had been several instances of UN flights landing at the airport without prior documentation from the Immigration Department.

The decision by the government to re-authorize the use of the private MOVCON terminal comes at a critical time and has sparked renewed controversy over premier Roble’s move to publicly apologize to UAE over the seizure of $ 9.8 million and sending it back the UAE.
