Somalia Government, African Union discuss AMISOM withdrawal plan

The Federal Government of Somalia has concluded a consultative meeting in Mogadishu with the African Union Commission and AMISOM on AMISOM’s post-2021 engagement in Somalia.

The consultative meeting was attended by Somalia Minister for Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, Somalia Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisaid Muse Ali and Somalia Minister for Internal Security, Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, the Director of Conflict Management of the African Union, Dr. Alhaji Sarjoh Bah and AU Special Envoy to Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira.
The meeting discussed the future of the restructured African Union Mission in Somalia.

The FGS and the African Union have agreed on the principles that will guide the participation of the FGS and the AU in the 2022 transition, agreeing to resume the work of the Technical Committee and complete the technical work by 11 February 2022.

The African Union & Federal Government of Somalia has signed a landmark agreement outlining the principles and modalities for reconfigured AMISOM.
The Federal Government of Somalia thanks AMISOM and TCC troop contributing countries for their support to the Somali National Security Forces in bringing lasting peace and stability to the country.

The Federal Government of Somalia underscored that the time has come for AMISOM to review the Transition Process (STP), with the result that it will be fully implemented and secure the country by the end of 2023.
