Three people have died of starvation and thirst in Luuq district in Gedo region in the Jubbaland state of Somalia.
Luuq district commissioner for Gedo region Ali Kediye Ahmed said two of the three dead were children, who he said were on their way to Luuq district.
He said that Luuq district in Gedo region is home to hundreds of people displaced by the drought in Golweyn, Yurkud and those from Garbaharey and Luuq areas in Gedo region.
Ali Kediye Ahmed, the district commissioner of Luuq in Gedo region, added that they have sent an appeal to aid agencies, the Somali government and Jubbaland state, but so far they have not received any response or relief aid for drought-affected people.
Residents in areas and districts in South and Central Somalia are currently affected by a severe drought situation.
