Jubbaland Relief and Disaster Management Ministry holds critical meeting with Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Committee to address biting drought in Jubbaland state

The Jubbaland Minister for Relief and Disaster Management, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed has today met with the Jubbaland Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Committee.

The meeting focused on engagement, and appeals to the business community, the Somali Federal government and wellwishers to take part in efforts to address the biting drought in Middle Juba, Lower Juba and Gedo region.

Drought in Jubbaland state has affected two million people, according to the Jubbaland Minister for Relief and Disaster Management, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed.

The spokesman for the Jubbaland Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Committee, Sheikh Abdirashid Dahir Ahmed has called on everyone to take part in addressing the biting drought situation currently ravaging Jubbaland state.

“I call on the Somali government, the business community to all take part in saving the lives of people and livestock affected by the severe drought situation Jubbaland state”, Said Sheikh Abdirashid Dahir Ahmed.

The Jubbaland Minister for relief and disaster management, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed said that the three regions of Jubbaland state is currently hit hard by a severe drought that has ravaged human and livestock and urgent intervention was critical to save lives.

“Morning after morning the situation is deteriorating and I call on donor agencies and the Somali government to come in aid of the affected people. We are now making efforts to meet with religious leaders, business people and the community at large and urge them to play their part in efforts to address the drought in Jubbaland and to raise funds for our brothers and sisters who are dying of hunger and thirst, ”Said Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed.

The Jubbaland Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Committee has raised USD 6,600 from various sections of the Jubbaland community as part of donations to cushion the residents of Afmadow and Badhadhe districts of Lower Juba region from the biting drought situation.
