Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has opposed the Somali Prime Minister’s dismissal of NISA Director Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir.
A statement from the Somali presidency said:
“Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, After seeing the letter XRW / 314/9/2021 issued by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble regarding the dismissal of the Director of the Somali National Security Agency and the subsequent appointment of an Interim Commander and following the provisions of Articles 87 and 90 of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia which stipulate that the President of the Republic is the guardian and promoter of the basic principles of the Constitution, and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and subsequently after seeing Articles 97 and 100 of the JFS Provisional Constitution guide the powers of the Executive and the role of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia in dismissing the Commanders of the Armed Forces, which is limited to proposing and implementing policy development activities economy and governance” .
“The President of the Republic of Soamlia recognizes the importance of the National Security Agency to the security of the country and its role in countering the terrorist threat to Somalia and its international partners”.
The President said he maintains his responsibility to stop any action that may incite terrorist groups and undermine the reputation and role of the security services.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo also said that the decision of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble was illegal and unconstitutional.
He further said that the Director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency, Mr. Fahad Yassin Haji Dahir is instructed to continue to lead the National Security and Intelligence Agency, in accordance with the Constitution and the Presidential Decree.
President Farmajo also instructed the National Security and Intelligence Agency to present to the National Security Council the expected report at the time of the first meeting of the National Security Council.
