Ambassador Bashe Awil, who was recently appointed by Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi as Deputy Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister said he had resigned after expressing his displeasure.
He said he was grateful to the president for including him in the cabinet but did not want to take up the post. He also resigned as Somaliland’s envoy to Kenya.
A statement from his office read:
” I am resigning from my post as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. I have also resigned from the position of Representative of the Somaliland Office in Kenya, which you appointed me on August 13, 2018. It is a political tradition that national service is a surrender, so it has been a great honor for me to serve my country and serve as Somaliland’s Representative to the UAE and Kenya for six years. Finally I hope you accept my request here” Reads the statement.
