At least 47 African migrants have died after their boat capsized in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Mauritania.

Officials with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) say the migrants have been on a floating boat for two weeks.

El Paso reports that seven migrants who survived the boat were found off the coast of Mauritania, including six women and one man, four of whom are in critical condition.

The migrants were from Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, Ivory Coast and Guinea. The 54 migrants are believed to have sailed from the Moroccan coast on August 2 to the Spanish Canary Islands.
