The United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland have jointly convened an emergency meeting on the situation in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia.
Diplomatic sources said the conference would be held as soon as possible, especially next Friday.
The emergency meeting, organized by the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, coincided with the recapture of Mekhelle, the capital of the Tigray region, by the TPLF militia. Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has telephoned Prime Abiy Ahmed and explored the hope to stop the hostilities, the protection of civilians, the delivery of aid to baaan and that a political solution to end the conflict in Tigray region.
