Antonio Guterres files lawsuit against countries defaulting on debt payment including Somalia

According to the Associated Press, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has sent a letter to the UN General Assembly which contains names of countries who owe the UN including Somalia.

Antonio Guterres’ statement through Volkan Bozkir states thatSomalia, Comoros, and Sao Tome lose their voting rights for not completing their UN budget allocation.

But Antonio Guterres said that the council passed a resolution stating that they can still vote at the session this coming September.

Iran and the Central African Republic are also among the countries that have unpaid debt. The United Nations has said they will lose their right to vote in the 193-member General Assembly.

According to the letter from the UN Secretary-General, the minimum amount needed to restore voting rights is $ 16,251,298 owed to Iran and $ 29,395 to the Central African Republic.

Somalia will have to pay $ 1443,640 to avoid losing its right to vote forlater in September, whereComoros is expected to pay $ 871,632, Sao Tome and Principe $ 829,888, according to UN Secretary-General
