The African Union to hold discussion on Somalia political situation today

The African Union Peace and Security Council is today set to meet to discuss sensitive matters relating to Somalia’s political deadlock.

The African Union will play a leading role in resolving the political crisis, following a UN Security Council resolution calling for Somalia to be left to the African Union.

Members of the African Union is expected to appoint a new special representative led mediators between political stakeholders in Somalia to achieve conflict resolution.

Outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo visited Congo a few days ago, where he met with the Congo president who is also the chair of the African Union to mediate between Somali leaders.

The international community’s efforts are intended to resolve the situation in Somalia which escalated after the House of the People parliament gave an extension to the Members of Parliament and government agencies as well as the president.
