Somali government issues tough measures in the wake of coronavirus resurgence

The Somali government has ordered the closure of all educational institutions and government offices.

Wedding events and tea dens have also been ordered to close down.

Somali Information Minister Abukar Osman Dubbe said licensed demonstrations are required to maintain the social distancing rule.

Most non-essential work has been suspended for two weeks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic which has re-emerged in Somalia.

After assessment of the resurgence of coronavirus pandemic, the Somali government has reviewed previous decisions and recommendations of the National Commission for disease Prevention and Control, the Somali Prime Minister issued orders and measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

COVID19 DISEASE CONTROL:

  • Everyone should wear a mask at all public places such as markets, mosques, public transport, businesses and any other public place.
  • Government offices will be temporarily closed for 2 weeks from March 3, 2021, and staff will work from home, except for those who provide essential services.
  • All public and private educational institutions such as schools and universities will be closed for 2 weeks from 3 March to 17 March 2021.
  • Traffic between the capital and the regions will be reduced for 2 weeks from 3 March 2021 to 17 March 2021.
  • Public and private transportation will continue as normal in urban areas, and people must wear face masks and ensure social separation.
  • Weddings and tea dens have been banned for 30 days.
  • Motorbikes (Bajaj) and Buses are allowed to carry passengers and must be kept clean at all times, people should stay away from each other and wear face masks.
  • Meetings of more than 10 people have been suspended for 1 month. Licensed private gatherings are subject to certain conditions:

1. The crowd should be 2 meters away from each other.

2. Everyone who attends should bring a mask.

· Gymnasiums and playgrounds are suspended for 2 weeks from March 3 to March 17, 2021.

· Funeral services and funerals should not be more than 10 people and will ensure social separation and adoption.

· The Ministry of Health is stepping up efforts to maintain general sanitation in public places such as markets, mosques, hospitals, banks and similar places to reduce the spread of Covid19.

· Hospitals and pharmacies should be clean at all times and adhere to Health Ministry rules and guidelines.

PEOPLE EXPRESSING OR COMING INTO THE COUNTRY

• Everyone arriving or leaving the country should wear face mask regularly to reduce the spread of Covid19.

• Travelers should have a COVID-19 test, and be screened at designated checkpoints to make sure they are not infected (COVID-19) 72 hours before traveling.

• A person without a Covid19 Test Certificate will not be allowed to enter the country (Negative COVID-19 Certificate), you must have a certificate issued within 72 hours.

• Airlines should publish COVID-19 messages and explain to passengers to maintain safety during the flight.

• All Immigrants must be Isolated for 7 days and undergo a PCR test at the end of the quarantine period.

Issues related to the replacement of AMISOM and United Nations Guard Unit in Mogadishu will be in line with the UNGU Rotation Plan for COVID-19 to protect the overall health of the country.

• All government institutions working on the operation of airports in the country to work together closely on flights operation to prepare healthy environment and aware of the COVID 19.

The Ministry of Health has been instructed to develop an urgent system measures to ensure the safety of people arriving from abroad and to conduct a formal inspection upon arrival and quarantined.
