The chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, issued a joint statement on the country’s political situation and called on politicians to discuss electoral disputes.
“We commend the people and leaders of Somalia for the progress they have made in recent years in stabilizing the country but more needs to be done to achieve more in the Somali nation”, reads part of the joint statement.
The joint statement has also called on politicians and leaders to discuss issues pertinent to the disputed Somali elections.
“The chairman and secretary general urge Somali leaders to resume dialogue and to work more to end the political challenges relating to the Somali elections and to respect the agreement reached on 17 September 2020”, adds further the joint statement.
The dialogue and meeting to resolve the Somali poll impasse had been hitting a snag in the recent past and still unresolved. BY OSMAN HUSSEIN ALI
