Alexei Navalny, a fierce critic of Russia’s Kremlin, has been arrested after a plane carrying him landed at a Moscow airport, just five months after he survived a nerve agent poisoning.

Mr Navalny, 44, was seen being escorted by police to a passport checkpoint at the airport.

Many people had already gathered at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport to greet him, but the plane was diverted to another airport.

Social activists say the assassination attempt on Alexei Navalny who was poisoned and left in a comma was orchestrated by the Russian government.
