Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud speaking to the media at a press conference held by the candidates’ union last night strongly condemned the decision of the federal government and some state leaders to hold uncontested elections.

“The election announced is not possible and it only serve to damage the unity of this country. Things are not heading in the right direction for us. No consultations have been made to all the parties concerned and this does not represent the interest of us all,” Said Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

He said the leaders of Galmudug, South West and Hir Shabelle states plan would not sail through.

“They are looting the seat of the president and manipulating the people. That is not right,” He added.

He made it clear that if the Somali government adheres to its decision to hold elections in the country, the Union of Candidates will take action, although he did not say what kind of action it will be.

The former Somalia president said the unity of the country at stake and more concerted efforts should be geared towards seeing a better, more unified and democratic Somalia.

This comes in the wake of Somalia prime minister’s announcement yesterday of an electoral process to happen in the country soon.
