The United Nations in Somalia congratulates the Deputy United Nations Envoy to Somalia Rai Zenenga on his appointment as Assistant Secretary-General and Operations Coordinator for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
He has been the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) since 2014.
“UNSOM is grateful for the hard work it has done in Somalia over the past five years, and we look forward to fulfilling its mandate,” a statement from UNSOM said.
Rai Zenenga has been the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) since 2014, and previously served as the Deputy Special Representative (Political) for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
He also served as Executive Director of the United Nations Headquarters for 10 years, during which time he supported a number of United Nations peacekeeping missions in Africa.
