The Somali National Army (SNA) particularly the 27th Division operating in Hiraan region has launched a planned road clearing operation in Hiraan and Middle Shabelle regions of Somalia.
The commander of the 27th Division of the Somali National Army, General Ahmed Mohamed Taredishe spoke of the operation in recent days saying that they have succeeded in reopening many roads that were previously closed by Al-Shabaab.
Commander Taredishe told the media that during the operation, government forces in Hirshabelle killed more than 15 Al-Shabaab fighters.
The commander also pointed out that the army has removed landmines from many roads connecting Hiraan and Middle Shabelle regions noting that the mines were intended to harm civilians.
He said that the operation against Al-Shabaab will continue and that the government forces want to capture areas under the control of Al-Shabaab grip.
Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, have claimed responsibility for a series of grenade attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, last month.
