A meeting by the Somali lawmakers is expected today at the Villa Hargeisa to discus various matters.
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is expected to be in attendance. the newly-appointed Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble will also be present at the meeting.
The first agenda of the meeting is the President’s speech and he is expected to ask lawmakers to give their vote of confidence to his newly appointed Prime Minister. President Farmajo held a joint meeting with the Speaker of both Houses of the Federal Parliament at the Presidential Palace yesterday and reportedly discussed two issues which were the ratification of an election agreement with state leaders, one of which was to be tabled in Parliament and to give confidence to the newly appointed prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
For the past few days, private meetings have been held in Mogadishu to persuade lawmakers to cast their votes of confidence for new Prime Minister Roble.
All regional leaders are still in the capital, Mogadishu and are campaigning for parliament to implement an agreement reached between them and President Farmajo at Villa Somalia last Thursday.
In the coming days, the agreement on the election will be presented to parliament for ratification. Just hours after the agreement was announced on May 17, President Farmajo appointed Prime Minister Roble and if he gains the confidence of parliament today, then the biggest task ahead will be to implement the agreed electoral process which will be undertaken by November 1.
