The Jubbaland Ministry of humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management has today held a critical meeting in Kismayo to discuss the latest drought situation in the Jubbaland state of Somalia.
The meeting which was attended by local and international aid agencies in partnership with the Jubbaland Ministry of humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management has discussed ways to assist those affected by the ravaging drought situation.
The Director General of the Jubbaland Ministry of humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management, Abdirashid Omar Faratoon who addressed the media after the meeting said the Jubbaland state is currently facing a ravaging drought problem which needs urgent intervention.
“We are facing a difficult situation owing to the drought situation in Jubbaland state that has affected people and livestock as well. Today, this meeting was different from previous meetings. We focused on drought issues and how to help the people of Jubbaland state, an urgent assistance is highly needed at this critical time, ” Said Abdirashid Omar.
The Director General said that the Jubbaland ministry of humanitarian affairs and disaster management has carried out water trucking in parts of Lower Juba region including Afmadow, Badhadhe, Dhobley and Elwak districts of the region but more aid is needed as the drought has progressed and the situation is deteriorating day by day.
“In fact, the agencies and the ministry have agreed to provide emergency assistance to the people, and I urge the public to do whatever they can on their end to help the drought-stricken people and their livestock,” noted the Director-General of the Jubbaland Ministry of humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management.
In recent months, pastoralists in three regions of Jubbaland regional state have been facing a prolonged biting drought situation that has affected both people and livestock.
