Somalia, US discuss election security

Somali Police Force Commander General Abdi Hassan Mohamed (Hijaar) has met with Wendy Stancer, the Head of Political and Security at the US Embassy in Mogadishu.

The meeting, in the presence of embassy officials discussed election security issues and projects of US Embassy and SPF.

The Head of Politics and Security at the US Embassy in Somalia Wendy Stancer said the United States is ready to assist Somalia in accelerating the electoral process, which is a major security concern.

On his part, Somali Police Chief General Abdi Hassan Mohamed (Hijaar) thanked the United States for its continued support to the Somali government, adding that it was important to redouble its support.

Somalia’s upper house of parliament is expected to hold elections in the coming days, and the polling stations will be secured by the Somali National Police, state police and AMISOM police.
