The Somali National Army (SNA) along with the Jubbaland state forces have carried out a joint military mine clearing operations in Lower Jubba region.
The troops of the 5th Battalion of the 16th Danab National Army Command and the Jubbaland Darwiish Forces carried out the operation in Dhaycabdow, Mayonde and Bula-Kusow areas.
Top officials leading the operation said the operation was aimed at retaliating against Al-Shabaab in the area, in order to prevent further attacks in the wake of Saturday’s ambush on a chekpoint.
One of the military officials said that the operation removed several landmines planted by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab terror group in the area.
The military officials further added that the Al-Shabaab has suffered casualties during the intensive operation.
