The Minister of Relief and Disaster Management of Jubbaland, Abdirahman Mohamed Dhiriq, together with Dr. Yasid Abdalla Hamud, Head of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for Africa, today laid the foundation stone for a major housing project in Luglow/Halgan, on the outskirts of Kismayo.

The project will see the construction of 200 permanent homes, complemented by essential services including healthcare facilities, schools, and clean water systems. It is being implemented by Tadamun Organization, with financial support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister Dhiriq emphasized that this initiative is the first of its kind in Somalia, designed to provide sustainable solutions for families displaced by floods. He noted that the project aligns with Jubbaland’s Strategic Housing Policy, which focuses on creating safe, climate-resilient communities for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“This housing project marks a turning point in our efforts to resettle displaced families and ensure they have access to secure homes and basic services,” said Minister Dhiriq.

The initiative is part of Jubbaland’s broader commitment to long-term resettlement and climate adaptation, aiming to transform temporary displacement camps into permanent, well-serviced neighborhoods.
