Jubbaland State President, Ahmed Mohamed Islam has today presided over the weekly Cabinet meeting in Kismayo, focusing on the country’s escalating political and security situation. The weekly cabinet meeting delved into the growing threats that could potentially hinder Somalia’s state-building process.

The Jubbaland Cabinet discussed the political manoeuvres by the administration of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which are perceived as jeopardizing national unity and potentially reverting the country to a period of instability. Concerns were raised about the emergence of an authoritarian regime and the dismantling of the existing national consensus framework.

The Jubbaland Ministry of Internal Security presented a report on Jubbaland’s security status, highlighting ongoing efforts by Jubbaland forces. Recent operations have inflicted significant losses on the insurgent group Al-Shabaab.

In its part, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management presented draft legislation aimed at improving the humanitarian response framework. The Cabinet decided to postpone the approval of this legislation to allow for further review and in-depth analysis.
