Hiiraan region Governor Muse Salad Wehliye, alongside Hirshabelle State Minister of Justice Mahad Beyle and Somali armed forces officers, successfully mediated an end to inter-clan fighting on the volatile border between the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
The Hiiraan regional administration announced Sunday that the warring Hawadle and Abgaal clans agreed to cease hostilities and unite against the shared threat of al-Shabab militants.
“Achieving peace is essential for the brothers who are at war,” read a statement from the governor’s office. “A genuine and complete reconciliation must be established, and we will make every effort to foster unity among the brothers.”
Governor Wehliye urged the armed forces to maintain security while ensuring harmony among the clans.
The conflict, triggered by resource disputes, erupted in the El-Dhere rural area and followed similar clashes in El Baraf and Jalalaqsi districts earlier in the week, highlighting the region’s fragile stability.
