Somali police arrested 12 people on Saturday following a coordinated clan-based attack on a police station near the Ex-Control Afgoye intersection in Mogadishu, according to Police Spokesman Colonel Abdifatah Adan Hassan.

The attack involved militia forces and government soldiers from various military branches, reportedly acting along clan lines.

Colonel Abdifatah explained that the Somali Police Force, working in partnership with the Hodan district administration to maintain road security, was targeted by the armed group opposed to national security efforts.

The spokesman expressed surprise that soldiers from various military branches would rally along clan lines in 2024, highlighting the serious implications for national unity.

“Around 12 individuals have been detained at Hodan police station and will appear in court within 24 hours. It’s unexpected that military personnel, including soldiers and officers, would align with their clan this way,” Colonel Abdifatah remarked.

At least two people were killed and five others injured in the fighting, which took place in a neighbourhood near the Ex-Control Afgoye intersection, according to local residents.
