Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Mogadishu today Friday for Egypt Air’s inaugural flight to Mogadishu as the two countries strengthen their relations.
Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Moallim Fiqi welcomed Shoukry’s delegation at Aden Adde International Airport, where the launching ceremony occurred.
At a press conference, the two ministers expressed hope that the Egypt Air flight would serve as the basis for expanded cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Fiqi emphasized that the new flights are expected to bolster economic relations by promoting trade, tourism, and investment opportunities between Cairo and Mogadishu.
Flight MS873 will stop in Djibouti before continuing to Mogadishu. The Egyptian national carrier will operate biweekly flights on this new route, enhancing connectivity between Cairo and Mogadishu and facilitating greater economic and diplomatic engagement between Egypt and Somalia.
