Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Maalam Faqi, met with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo on Saturday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.
The Somali government stated that the two ministers focused on major areas of cooperation, including economic, security, education, cultural, training, and health aspects. They also discussed implementing a direct flight between the two countries in July and opening a Bank of Egypt branch in Somalia.
During the meeting, Shoukry and Faqi also addressed the latest developments in the African region and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
EgyptAir is expected to begin direct flights from Cairo to Mogadishu on July 11, enhancing connectivity and economic ties between Egypt and Somalia.
The airline will operate twice-weekly flights to Somalia’s capital, reflecting Egypt’s broader strategy to improve African air connectivity.
