The Somali government has detained several army officers after they diverted rations intended for the US-trained Danab forces in Somalia.

Ministry of Defense released a statement on Thursday saying that the Somali National Armed Forces have reported a diversion of Danab rations in a unit of its forces.

“The FGS takes these incidents seriously and has immediately launched an investigation, which resulted in the suspension and detention of officers within the ranks to ensure accountability and transparency. The Ministry of Defense notified the incident to its stakeholders and will share the outcomes of these investigations in due course.”

The officers detained have not been identified.

The statement added that the government will assume responsibility for the Danab rations from the US and is currently working closely with USG.
