Somali security forces repulsed an al-Shabab attack on army checkpoints in Bal’ad, located 30 km north of Mogadishu, today morning.
The group started the attack with explosions followed by gunfire between the security forces stationed at the checkpoint and the militants, according to residents in Bal’ad town, Middle Shabelle region.
Preliminary pictures taken from the town showed destruction caused by the explosions.
The casualties remain unknown as security forces are currently conducting operations in the neighborhood.
Security officials have not yet commented on the presence of al-Shabab in the town.
