The Galmudug State football team won their first Somalia Inter-Regional States Tournament in an extraordinary final on Monday afternoon as they beat the Hirshabelle State team 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
The match, marked by its intensity, concluded in a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes, leading to the decisive penalty shootout. Hirshabelle missed two penalties during the shootout, while Galmudug successfully converted their kicks.
In the previous year, the football team of the Galmudug regional administration reached the final against the Banadir regional team, but Banadir emerged as the league champions. This year’s competition presented a distinct challenge compared to previous editions.
