Somali government evacuated 137 Somali citizens trapped in Sudan to Somalia, bringing the total number of evacuees to 379.

Hamza Adan Hadow, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and other government officials at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu welcomed the returnees.

It was the fifth flight from Sudan since the federal government started the evacuation of its citizens from the country.

The Permanent Secretary stated that the Ministry was committed to the safety and security of its citizens and had sped up the evacuation process in less than a week after the outbreak of clashes in Sudan. He thanked the international partners and Somali diplomats in Sudan and Ethiopia for their assistance.

Last Wednesday, Abshir Omar Jama, the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led a meeting in Mogadishu to expedite the evacuation efforts for Somali citizens trapped in Sudan.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, Sudan’s warring parties have met for direct talks as mediators press to end a conflict that has killed hundreds and forced tens of thousands to flee.
