Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISA) successfully prevented a planned terrorist attack on Mogadishu’s Peace Garden today.

The operation led to the seizure of explosive vests and a Bajaj motorcycle intended for use in the attack.

The Ministry of Information revealed that the militants were divided into two groups. One group was assigned to carry out the pre-attack explosions, while the other armed group planned to raid the park. The government did not disclose the number of militants arrested.

“NISA’s vigilant surveillance of the Khawarij’s activities ultimately enabled them to avert the attack,” read a portion of the statement.

The intelligence agency reported that it had been monitoring al-Shabaab’s preparations for the attack, leading to its disruption.

Peace Park, a tranquil green space featuring cafes and a children’s playground, is situated at El-Gab junction near Villa Somalia in central Mogadishu. The park serves as a popular spot for locals to relax on weekends. Although private investors renovated the park, the land is owned by the federal government.
