Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ordered the release of 127 inmates from prisons in Mogadishu on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr on Saturday.
The Office of the Attorney General stated that the pardons were granted to prisoners convicted of minor crimes in several prisons in Mogadishu, including the Central Prison and the MBC Prison in the former control of Afgoye.
The prisoners who received amnesty walked out of jail with joy on their faces and thanked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for granting them amnesty.
