Jubbaland State President meets with US Deputy Ambassador in Kismayo

Jubbaland regional state President Ahmed Mohamed Islam has today met with the US Deputy Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Tim Trenkle in Kismayo.

The Ministers of Planning, Security, Internal Affairs, and the Presidency attended the meeting.

The US Deputy Ambassador and President Ahmed Mohamed Islam discussed operations against Al Shabab groups, including the offensive to liberate the areas still under Al- Shabab’s control in Jubbaland state.

They also discussed the stabilization of areas recently liberated from terrorism and how to provide essential services to the people in those areas.

The meeting comes days after President Ahmed Mohamed Islam inspected several recently liberated areas from Al Shabab in the Lower Jubba region. The villages included Aw-Qumbale, El-adde, Anjel, and Janay Abadale.

The Jubbaland State President and US Deputy Ambassador also discussed finding a sustainable solution to natural disasters and how to help people recover from the effects of the disasters.

On Wednesday, Somalia’s disaster management agency warned about possible flooding in the Shabelle and Jubba rivers. The water levels in the rivers have increased due to heavy rains that have fallen in the mountains of Ethiopia.
