Several traditional elders have arrived in Garowe from Mogadishu to meet with the SSC traditional elders who are currently in Garowe.
According to the information, the elders have formed an independent fact-finding committee to see the effects of fighting in Las Anod town. They will also look into Somaliland’s allegations that its forces have committed massacres and atrocities in the town.
A committee from Mogadishu is visiting Las Anod town for the first time to assess the situation.
Earlier, a committee of elders who left Hargeisa were unable to travel to Las Anod because the elders of the SSC-Khatumo insisted that Somaliland troops leave the Sool region before arriving in the town.
Dr. Ismail Mohamoud, the director of Gargaar Hospital in Las Anod, has reported that at least 200 people have died, and hundreds more have been injured in weeks of intense fighting.
The Somaliland army has been battling with clan militias to gain control of Las Anod since December 28, 2022.
