The President of the Jubbaland regional state of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam has received the Minister for Defense of Kenya, Aden Barre Duale in the city of Kismayo, the capital of the Lower Jubba region.
The two leaders are said to have discussed preparations for the launch of operations against Al-Shabaab in parts of the Jubbaland regional areas.
“The authorities discussed the preparations for the launch of the Al-Shabaab operation in Jubaland and the support of the Kenyan government forces as part of the ATMIS operation as part of the upcoming operations,” said a statement issued by the Jubbaland Presidency.
The President of Jubbaland and the Minister for Defense of the Kenyan government also discussed how to cooperate on border security during the ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab.
Thevmeeting comes as the Jubbaland regional government has recently said that it has prepared for planned operations to remove Al-Shabaab from parts of the Jubbaland state.
