The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, in New York, United States and discussed several issues related to Somalia and the world.
António Guterres congratulated President Hassan Mohamud on his election and further discussed issues of ‘priority’ for Somalia, such as the cooperation between the Federal Government and the Federal member state governments, the strengthening of Somali government institutions, the dire humanitarian situation, the need to address the impact of climate change and the security situation in Somalia.
“The President expressed his commitment to the fight terrorism and the strengthen the stability of the country. He shared with the Secretary General of the United Nations, the joint struggle of the Somali people and the army to free the country from terrorism,” According to a press release from the presidency of Somalia after the meeting between President Hassan Sheikh and António Guterres.
“The Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, welcomed the President’s views on the restructuring of development projects carried out in the country and indicated that the recommendations and suggestions of the President are based on their plans as well as accelerating the role of the international community in the tackling emergency drought matters” added Villa Somalia’s statement.
The President of Somalia participated the 77th session of the General Assembly at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.
