Greek coast guard ships are searching for at least six migrants who are missing on the island of Leros, according to the country’s coast officials.
The Port Police on the coast of Leros found 49 African migrants while their artificial boat was also found in the sea, according to AFP a spokesman for the coast guard.
The rescued people, mostly from Sierra Leone, Somalia and Uganda, told the officials that 55 people were on the boat.
According to a statement from the Coast Guard, a rescue operation has been launched.
The Coast Guard also launched a second operation off Pylos, off Greece’s south-west coast, after two merchant ships rescued 85 migrants in a dingy.
Coast Guard vessels have begun searching for anyone who may still be in the waters. The rescued people were taken to Kalamata, the nearest port.
