Police in Mogadishu are investigating the death of a young Somali-Norwegian woman who died under “suspicious” circumstances this week.
Kama Duale was buried this week in Mogadishu, but news of her sudden death shocked her friends and family, who say that their suspicions were heightened when the healthy and social media-savvy young lady went abruptly offline in late April.
The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Somali Police, Brig. Gen Zakia Hussen Ahmed, the highest ranking woman in Somalia’s police force, said she was “personally overseeing” the investigation and asked Twitter users with information to cooperate with police directly.
“I’m personally overseeing the investigation of this case; however, I’d like to ask you all to refrain from posting as this could have an adverse impact on the trail of the case. If anyone has specific details/info, please DM me DIRECTLY. We all want justice for Kama. Let’s work together.'”
Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Thursday that it received information regarding a young Norwegian woman’s death in Mogadishu but said that it would take their foreign service sometime before they can formally confirm the death of a citizen.
