Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre received UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, at his office in Mogadishu on Monday.
They discussed strengthening the support the UN agencies provided to Somalia.
The representative of the UN congratulated the Prime Minister on the government’s cabinet confirmation passed by the Somali parliament on Sunday.
He assured the commitment of the UN agencies to strengthen their support.
Prime Minister Barre thanked the United Nations for supporting Somalia and that his government is ready to work closely to ensure the desired achievements.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s 75-member government was approved by 229 lawmakers. Moments after the vote, mortar shells struck residential neighbourhoods near the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
Parliament speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madoobe announced that seven MPs were rejected, while one MP abstained.
