Journalists Association of Jubbaland hails Jubbaland Journalists for critical Journalism as world marks World Press Freedom day

As the world marks the annual world press freedom day, the Journalists Association of Jubbaland has praised the noble and critical role played by the Jubbaland journalists and press in covering the recent parliamentary elections, the constitutional crisis and the worsening drought situation in the Jubbaland regional State of Somalia.

“On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day which was globally marked yesterday, we thank the Jubbaland journalists for their critical role in covering the recent parliamentary elections and the humanitarian situation, especially the worsening drought situation that has displaced many people and huge loss their livestock”, Reads a statement from Journalists Association of Jubbaland.

In an interview with state-owned media, the Journalists Association of Jubbaland Secretary General, Abdullahi A. Mohamed said it is important to remember the role journalists play in informing the public during difficult times, especially their role in covering the year-long parliamentary elections concluded last month and the humanitarian situation resulting from the recurring devastating droughts conditions.

“In commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, we reiterate their unforgettable role in covering the year-long parliamentary elections concluded last month and the state of the constitutional crises in the country, as well as the worsening drought that has displaced many people and left others without livestock,” said Abdullahi A. Mohamed.

The Jubbaland Association of Journalists has also praised the role of the Jubbaland media in informing the public and educating them on events and issues and how they affect their lives.

On this year’s occasion of the World Press Freedom Day in Somalia, the United Nations in Somalia has emphasized on the vital role that the country’s media play in Somali society and the need to ensure their ability to carry out their work safely and freely.
