Poor health situation is reported in areas between Bula-gadud and Goobweyn village where most of the displaced people fleeing from the drought-stricken areas of Lower Juba region, including women and children and the elderly have been camping in recent days.
The areas that are particularly reported to be hit hard by the poor health situation are El Jaale One, El Jaale Two and Istanbul, north of Kismayo.
Measles are said to have affected about 100 children from displaced families who have not been vaccinated as these families have been displaced from areas inaccessible to vaccination teams.
Speaking to Radio Kismayo, the Director of Public Health at the Jubbaland Ministry of Health, Abshir Yusuf Mohamed has confirmed that the Health Ministry is currently monitoring the reported health situation in the northern part of Kismayo. He said the ministry is aware of the lack of medical assistance for many displaced children plagued by poor health situation.
He also said that the displaced people have shared with the Health Ministry four deaths as a result of measles in the displaced camps. The four deaths are of children who died of measles without having access to medical care.
Dozen patients who are children are currently being hospitalized and treated at a health center in Goobweyn, which is yet not enough to meet the medical needs of the patients.
Most of the families of the children who are being treated at Goobweyn are from very poor background.
