The Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) has announced that the four seats whose results have been suspended will be re-run to rectify electoral irregularities.
Three seats are in South West State, and one is in Hirshabelle.
The statement says that the results of HOP 154, HOP 103, HOP 204 and HOP 086 – won by former intelligence director and President Mohamed Farmajo confidante Fahad Yasin – were annulled and would be held again at a later date. FEIT added that the election would be held according to the 2016 election process.
Fahad Yassin won seat HOP 086 on February 20 in Beledweyne. The federal election commission suspended the results the next day, citing irregularities concerning electoral delegates.
The announcement will likely anger the leadership of South West State, who announced on Tuesday morning that they were suspending cooperation with the PM after accusing him of “withholding seats.”
FEIT’s decision to re-run disputed parliamentary elections comes as the committee moves to hold a swearing-in-ceremony for both Houses of the Federal Parliament on April 14.
