Somali government to attend US debt forgiveness conference in the United States

Minister for Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Abdirahman Duale Beyle is in Washington D.C. for high-level meetings with IMF and World Bank officials and senior members of the US State Department.

The meetings will focus on the progress made in the Somalia economic reform program and the completion of the Somalia Debt Forgiveness Program which is important for international financial institutions.

“In Washington, I am holding important meetings with officials from international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF to discuss the completion of Somalia’s financial reform process in the coming days.We are committed to advancing the debt-forgiveness process in Somalia which we have come a long way through. ” Said the Somali Minister of Finance, Dr. Beyle.

The delegation of the Somali Minister of Finance is accompanied by the Ambassador of the Federal Government of Somalia to Washington Amb. Ali Sharif Ahmed.

The Federal Government of Somalia intends to accelerate its Debt Forgiveness program and technical support for Somalia’s economic recovery.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) last week said in an assessment of the Federal Government’s economic reform and personnel monitoring program that Somalia has made significant progress in reforming the country’s financial system.
