UN discusses AMISOM mission with Uganda and Burundi

The United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan, met with Ugandan Foreign Minister General Odongo Jeje at the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Turkey, to discuss Somalia.

The two leaders discussed the importance of all regional and international partners assisting in Somalia’s elections and security transition.

The two sides also discussed Uganda’s role in the African Union Mission in Somalia and the fight against Al-Shabaab terror militants.

Meanwhile, United Nations Special Representative to Somalia James Swan thanked Burundian Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro for supporting Burundi in the AMISOM operation following a meeting in Antalya, Turkey.

They discussed the importance of regional partners and the international community supporting Somalia in completing the elections and securing the transition.

Somalia currently has a large contingent of troops under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which is taking part in the fight against Al-Shabaab terror outfit in Somalia.
