March 8th international women’s day commemorated today in Mogadishu with calls for more women inclusion

A large-scale event marking the 8th of March International Women’s Day organized by the Somali Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development was held in the Somali capital, Mogadishu today.

The ceremony was attended by Somali First Lady Zeinab Abdi Moalim, the Somali Minister for Women’s Affairs Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim, government ministers and parliamentarians, the police chief and other top government officials.

Speaking at the event, the Somali Minister for Women Affairs congratulated the Somali women and highlighted in particular the efforts to achieve a 30% quota for women and the issue of drought with women being the first to be affected by the drought adversities.

Speakers during the event called on more women inclusion in the Somali political scene and implementation of the 30% women quota representation.

The Somali First Lady has congratulated the women on the occasion of the 8th of March International Women’s day and commending the efforts of women in various fields of governance.

The International Women’s day event is celebrated all over the world and Somalia is one of the countries celebrating this international day event.
