The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has issued a new report and warning of the dire situation in Somalia, particularly the drought in southern and central Somalia.
UNOCHA says the drought in Somalia has affected an estimated 4.3 million people, who are in urgent need of assistance.
The agency also said the escalating drought had left 271,000 people homeless and in search of water and food.
UNOCHA added that the expected heavy rains have worsened the humanitarian situation in Somalia.
“With the next rainy season not expected until April 2022, Somalia is on the verge of a catastrophe,” UNOCHA said.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has warned that the drought will intensify, with Somalia facing the threat of a fourth consecutive rainy season earlier this year in 2022.
Finally, UNOCHA has announced that more funding is urgently needed for the Somalia Humanitarian Response Plan.
The situation in the country is currently dire, with the drought looming at a time when Somalia is in a state of transition and in elections mood.
