Recently, the United Nations announced that some countries, including Somalia, will not pay the UN contribution, according to the Federal Government of Somalia.
Somalia’s Ambassador to the United Nations Abukar Balle said that the Somali government from 1989 to 2017 did not pay its membership fee, but that Somalia was open to becoming a member of the United Nations due to many circumstances and civil war that has happened in the country.
Speaking to Universal TV, the ambassador said that from 2018 to 2021, the Somali government was paying the annual dues of about $ 37,000 or $ 35,000.
He added that the Somali government has been in talks with the International Monetary Fund for the past two years to ensure that Somalia has time to pay its debts.
In recent days, there has been a lot of talks about UN debts to the Somali government, with outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo recently saying that the Somali government has appeared in international forums and played a key role in the UN’s work.
