The Council of Candidates Union has welcomed the outcome of this week’s National Consultative Council conference in Mogadishu.
The Council of Candidates commended the Prime Minister and the heads of regional state for considering their shared recommendations on improving the electoral process.
The Presidential Candidates Council also called on the leaders of the National Consultative Council to harmonize the electoral process.
“The council emphasizes that the prime minister and the cabinet are fully responsible for the security of the country and that the former president remains a candidate. The council welcomes Prime Minister Roble’s commitment to the government’s responsibility for national security,” The statement said.
The Council of Candidates called on Prime Minister Roble to monitor the election and ensure full transparency and credibility.
“The council urges the prime minister to take responsibility for implementing the procedures, monitoring election transparency, opening up the political arena, including freedom of expression, meetings, campaigns, travel, and the national media to allow candidates popularize themselves,” The statement said.
