US calls on President Farmajo and PM Roble to end inflammatory rhetoric, urges speedy poll process

Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Mary Catherine Phee has reported on her discussions with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

In a statement posted on her Twitter account, Mary Phee said she had a private meeting with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and discussed the urgent need for him and his premier to end the inflammatory rhetoric.

The United States has also urged the outgoing President to support Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, the National Consultative Assembly and the holding of credible elections.

“I spoke to President Farmajo today about the urgent need to put an end to the inflammatory rhetoric. “I urged him to support the convening of the National Consultative Assembly meeting and the speedy completion of credible elections,” Phee said.

Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Mary Catherine Phee has also held another meeting with Prime Minister Roble, noting that they support his efforts to convene a National Consultative Assembly to rectify electoral irregularities and conclude free elections as soon as possible.
