Somali Minister for Defense, Hassan Hussein Haji attended a meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, held via Zoom meeting.
The meeting discussed the Somali government’s plan to take over security and the withdrawal of AMISOM troops, as well as how the country’s armed forces can lead operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Defense minister Hassan Hussein Haji pointed out that the Federal Government of Somalia has made significant efforts to train and upgrade the army and the Government is committed to ensuring the overall security of the country and the fight against terrorism.
The meeting followed a meeting between the African Union and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) on the upcoming Military Transition, with the aim of taking over security from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
